As part of the Arctic Council’s Sustainable Development Working group AMATII process, this case study was developed to explore gaps in the Arctic region’s response capability under the Agreement on Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue. This emergency scenario examines how an international response to a maritime accident would be implemented. Existing emergency practises, protocols, legislations and agreements, and available resources and assets were considered to explore the wider implications of the Agreement.
