Marlisa Brown is Nihtat Gwich’in, First Nation and of settler Canadian ancestry. Born in Inuvik, NT and raised in Somba k’e (Yellowknife, NT), both communities are her home.

Marlisa’s policy research paper explores what is in place to help people better understand self-government agreements and gives policy recommendations to further support this vital education.

Reconnecting to Our Relations: The Need for Formal Land Claim and Self-Government Education in the Northwest Territories recommends:

• Digitizing land claim and self-government agreements to promote accessibility and usability
• Creating or supporting summer student and internship positions
• The creation of a Centre for Northern Indigenous Governance.
